Description

She Moves Among The Flowers by Jamie Condon - an original acrylic on board.

Inspired by the Nick Cave song 'Nature Boy'

"She moves among the flowers

And she floats upon the breeze

My father said, don't look away

You got to be strong, you got to be bold, now

He said, that in the end it is beauty

That is going to save the world, now "

I had painted a couple of pictures with cherry blossom in them, I wanted to paint a variation with figures in it. Thinking about a woman floating on the breeze and the cherry led me to visualize Japanese women in traditional clothing, and the picture developed from there.

Jamie Condon occasionally works in oil but generally use heavy body acrylics, I like the consistency and they dry much faster; this allows me the freedom to work quite quickly and be able to layer paints using brushes and palette knives on top of each other. I nearly always paint on hardboard as I don't like the movement of stretched canvas when I’m trying to do precise work. I prefer the solid nature of the boards.
